Saxony showcased its innovative companies, research institutions, and networks at this year’s conference – and highlighted the global relevance and growing attractiveness of its life science ecosystem.
At BIO-Europe 2025, Saxony stood out prominently as the only German federal state with its own joint stand. The SAXONY! booth showcased exhibitors such as leap:up GmbH with medical:forge Leipzig, BioCity Campus & LEVG, Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH (WFS), the SaxoCell Cluster, Innovation Region Leipzig, the nukliD Radiopharmacy Cluster, BIONCaRT GmbH, Meliodays Medical and Prosperodes GmbH. In addition, it welcomed partners such as Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), BioMindz, BIO Deutschland and the Potsdam Science Park.
Growing interest in the life science hub
The Saxon delegation recorded more than 200 fruitful partnering meetups, underscoring the growing global interest in the dynamic life science hub. Voices from the Saxon network confirmed this trend: Alexander Funkner (Fraunhofer IZI /SaxoCell) reported promising talks with start-ups working in NK cell and mRNA technologies, and pointed to growing Canadian interest driven by a shifting landscape in North America. Anja Rösler (BioCity Leipzig) highlighted growing international attention, especially from young companies exploring Saxony as a biotechnology location. And André Hofmann (leap:up GmbH) noted that start-ups continue to display interest in Saxony’s accelerator and regulatory offerings.
Ideal venue for networking
Vienna provided an ideal backdrop for the entire event: From the welcome reception at the elegant City Hall to the festive evening at the historic Hofburg, every venue was perfect to relax in and enjoy networking with peers and new contacts. At the joint stand, the atmosphere was lively and productive, enriched by informal get-togethers with Saxon snacks and regional beverages. And with preparations already underway for BIO-Europe 2026 in Cologne/Germany (November 9-11), Saxony’s strong performance in Vienna is setting the stage for continued international visibility and new partnerships when the doors open next year!
