All signals GO! Leipzig has launched construction on its centrally-located Innovation Center which is slated to open in 2026.
The city has long been a leader when it comes to innovation: 110 years ago, Hall 12 at the Leipzig Fair hosted the world’s largest International Building Exhibition. Now this area will offer space for next century’s innovative industries – the healthcare and life sciences, specifically the biotechnology sector.
The Innovation Center will provide a total of more than 10,000 square meters (~110,000 sq ft) over four floors, targeted specifically to the needs of start-ups and young companies. They will be able to customize office and S2 laboratory areas as needed, while simulta-neously benefiting from the Innovation Center’s conference rooms and maker spaces (for prototyping). Creative networking zones like the “Founders Cuisine” will give innovators the chance to chat and tickle their palate at the same time.
The project is receiving a total of ~22 million Euros in funding from the State of Saxony and the City of Leipzig. The Innovation Center is the third building complex which LGH Leipziger Gewerbehof GmbH & Co. KG is constructing on the grounds of the BioCity Campus in Leipzig. This prime location means that tenants will strongly benefit from the approximately 150 companies and institutions – primarily from the biotechnology and life sciences sectors – who will be their neighbors. The hub attracts around 2.5 million visitors and customers annually and is a job motor for the region’s qualified work force.

A relatively small metropolis in Germany’s Free State of Saxony – a dynamic hub for the life science industry? What was just a vision 20 years ago has become a reality for the city of Leipzig, which from October 24-26 co-hosted BIO-Europe, Europe’s largest annual biotech partnering event.
