The Going Public Finance Days, an annual event dedicated to financing in the life sciences sector, was held in Leipzig for the first time in 2024. After an exclusive pre-event the evening before, the ‘who’s who’ of the industry gathered at BIO CITY LEIPZIG on October 24th to listen, learn and network. Topics covered ranged from general financing trends in Europe, to how life science start-ups can attract venture capital, to what it takes to become a publicly traded company. Lighthouse projects from Germany also revealed the secrets of their success to a rapt audience.

Just as much attention was paid to the local players from Saxony who presented their work during the day: Leipzig’s business accelerators MEDICAL FORGE LEIPZIG and SpinLab, as well as its venture capital firm Goldtrack Ventures, explained how they are supporting young life science companies at the start of their growth. Participants learned more about SPRIN-D, Germany’s Leipzig-based platform for leapfrog innovations – and about the work that Saxon networks like SaxoCell and DIANA are doing to advance the regional life science sector in specific and impactful ways. Last but not least, the winners of the “BioInnovate Saxony” competition showcased their innovative ideas before the plenum.

After this very informative day, the evening event offered yet another great talk on AI in healthcare by speaker Bart De Witte– and plenty of opportunity to network. The next day, participants were able to tour Leipzig’s vibrant life science ecosystem, including the BioCity Campus Leipzig, MEDICAL FORGE LEIPZIG, the Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery (ICCAS), and the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI. And, as luck would have it, Germany’s BioRegion Working Group had scheduled their meeting for that same day in Leipzig – leading to the perfect combination of finance and cluster-related knowledge exchange and networking!
