New lab spaces and plenty of international visibility are making the city’s science ecosystem heat up – in the best possible way.

Leipzig’s historic fairground is getting a new lease on life: 8,600 sqm will become home to the CLL CityLab Leipzig, a modern office and lab space for companies looking for flexible amenities in the heart of the city. Units start at 850 sqm and the complex will have around 300 workplaces after completion. CityLab’s first tenant, the Health Innovation Space by Inno3, has already signed the lease and is looking forward to supporting digital health start-ups with its services. The 26,000 sqm large BioSquare has also secured its first tenant, Leipzig-based shooting star c-LEcta which is migrating from the BioCube to accommodate its growth. The company creates customized enzymes and microorganisms for food, detergents and medicines. Its customers include global giants like BASF, Henkel and Evonik.

Global presence at fairs in Boston and Amsterdam

June saw Saxony’s life science enablers spreading the word about the cluster’s growth at two renowned global trade fair venues: the BIO International Convention in Boston/USA and the HLTH Europe in Amsterdam/Netherlands. Saxony was one of more than 80 exhibitors at the German Pavilion in Boston, where it showcased the Free State’s strengths as a life science and tech location, including in the field of radiopharmaceutics. The medical:forge Leipzig made a strong showing in Amsterdam, where it had a joint stand with former and current alumni of the program. Visitors had a chance to hear about the teams’ respective journeys into the German market – and scope out whether Leipzig’s supportive start-up ecosystem might be a good fit for them and their innovative technologies.
